And on top of it all, the movie is beautiful, due to both its incredible shots of the African landscape (which at times is haunting and unearthly) and the gorgeous cinematography. But of course, all is not as it seems. While working on a homework assignment with Karen (Lily Collins), his neighbor-classmate-love interest, Nathan figures out (in the course of one of several scenes that will require a healthy suspension of disbelief) that his folks aren't his parents after all; shortly thereafter, a couple of bad guys posing as cops show up, murder Mara and Kevin, and blow up their house, leaving the two kids on the run without a clue as to why or from whom. It develops that his real dad, a deep-cover CIA operative, has stashed some digital data, now in Nathan's possession, that an implacable Russian mobster (Michael Nyqvist, so good in the Swedish adaptations of\nThe Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and its sequels) would\nreally like to get his hands on; and while another CIA agent (Alfred Molina) may be trying to help the kid, he probably can't be trusted either. The action set pieces, including the finale at a Pittsburgh Pirates game, are quite good; the supporting cast is strong; and, of course, Lautner, the young stud who put the \"ab\" in\nAbduction, gets to display both his martial arts chops and his rocky bod a few times. Ainsi, après\nHannibal, qui donnait une suite à l’excellent\nSilence of the Lambs, c’est maintenant le “passé” que l’on dévoile dans\nRed Dragon, réalisé par Brett Ratner.\n L’ancien agent du FBI Will Graham vit une retraite paisible, jusqu’au jour où les meurtres odieux d’un terrible schizophrène, affublé du doux sobriquet de “Red Dragon” en hommage à un tableau de William Blake, l’obligent à reprendre du service. Pour comprendre les rouages de l’esprit du psychopathe, il n’aura d’autre choix que de faire appel au non moins terrible Hannibal Lecter, qu’il avait lui-même arrêté. \n Même si Red Dragon aligne des acteurs solides comme Ed Norton, Emily Watson, Harvey Keitel et, bien sûr, sir Anthony Hopkins, il souffre néanmoins d’incohérences majeures. D’abord, le traitement cinématographique trop moderne semble anachronique face à l’action supposée se situer dans les années 80. Ensuite, la relation entre Norton et Hopkins n’atteint jamais l’intensité séductrice et perverse qui liait Jodie Foster au cannibale. Il n’y a entre les deux hommes qu’un rapport de force qui manque d’une certaine subtilité pour être vraiment inquiétant. Le film peut toutefois compter sur un suspense bien mené, notamment grâce à l’arrivée tardive du tueur, interprété par un Ralph Fiennes fou et vulnérable à souhait, et sur une finale spectaculaire.
