Bellflower / Upside Down - CD
Vast: this is a qualifier that perfectly describes the music of the Bellflower band, founded and masterfully led by the singer-songwriter and performer Em Pompa. Three years after the release of the album The Season Spell , Bellflower offers on Upside Down an indie pop tinged with electro, prog and soaring jazz, where sulphurous melodies fly over the majestic atmospheric arrangements at will. Bellflower 's large-scale cinematic music offers a unique universe of imaged landscapes, sailing between strength and softness, between gravity and weightlessness. Note that the cover is the work of renowned visual artist Alexandra Levasseur.
Besides Em Pompa (vocals, guitar), Bellflower is made up of 7 accomplished musicians active on the Montreal music scene: William Côté – drums, voice, guitar (Trio Jérôme Beaulieu – Misc, Les Louanges), Jérôme Beaulieu – piano, synthesizers ( Misc, Ivy), Jérémi Roy – bass, synth bass (Sarah Toussaint-Léveillée, Chienvoler), Félix Petit – saxophone (FELP, Les Louanges, Hubert Lenoir), Kathryn Samman – voice, percussion (Little Misty), Nicolas Boulay – trumpet , flugel horn (Dawn Tyler-Watson, Les Cowboys Fringuants), Alexandre Dodier – saxophones, clarinet, flute (SHPIK). Coming from different musical backgrounds, the musicians bring their respective experience and their creative energy to create rich music with a unique sound and singular arrangements.
