* Discographic premiere
Jean-Michel Dubé is the youngest of a family of five children, four of whom are pianists. At the age of three, he started playing the piano at home with his mother, herself a pianist. At the age of seven, he entered the Conservatoire de musique de Québec. In 2015, he won the grand prize of the Hélène-Roberge Competition, which enabled him to record, thanks to Espace XXI and Aramusique, the works of André Mathieu . This disc is a world premiere, as the complete works for the piano had never been recorded before. This recording, chosen “Discovery CD of the month of November 2016” by the magazine Scena musicale, has also been the subject of presentations on the airwaves of Radio-classique and Ici Musique.
In the spring of 2016, Jean-Michel Dubé won the Grand Prize at the Pierre-de-Saurel Classical Music Festival-Competition, which gave him the opportunity to record a second CD. It is again to André Mathieu that he chooses to dedicate this album presenting works for solo piano, a Concertino for two pianos as well as melodies, in order to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the composer's death in 2018. Seven of the 16 recorded works are first recordings.
