It is to believe that chance does not exist . Zoo Baby is what was to happen to his alter ego , singer-songwriter Xavier Dufour-Thériault . While he continues to make the girls dance with Gazoline , which he took as the bass for Caféïne , he had to give back to what is nowadays softly called the authenticity, the vigor of his philosophical aspirations; express with sincerity and commitment what he is deeply.
Between the walls of his bedroom, without absolutely claiming to belong to this American bedroom pop movement born in the 10s, and although he is from this generation which has never known the world without the internet, it is with this ethos of the new DIY wave that Xavier originally designed the Zoo Baby pop.
A music – because the popular is not an aesthetic in itself, he defends – highly attractive, sensual and personal, true, free and original, of a complex and uninhibited simplicity. 10 songs on love, dreams and their opposites that he brought to the hands of Julien Mineau (Malajube).
In the studio-house of Saint-Ursule of the genius director and arranger, the two, relentless workers obsessed with melodies that cling without warning, have erected castles of analog and synthetic instrumentation on the 10 tracks. Modern architectures made of layers of atmospheric keyboards, post-disco grooves , fuzzy and mellow strings, cheated brass and layers of reverberant harmonic voices. Between the inaugural “A metaphor for love” and “Sleep paralysis”, which dies out in a tortuous feedback , it is a rare musical world in these French-speaking Nordic lands that we hear emerging. Strong. Absorbent.
