Presented on three DVDs packed with enriching bonuses (interviews with Eastwood and his actors, guided tour by Lehane from Boston, documentary on the adaptation), Mystic River is a harsh film plunging us into the heart of the troubled souls of its characters. Psychologically well developed and wonderfully interpreted, the latter are really the backbone of the film, which is also based on a sober and meticulous realization. Finding in Lehane's work an echo of the themes that have been dear to him since Unforgiven (corruption, revenge, responsibility), Eastwood delicately exposes the ravages of pedophilia and unrolls the tape of this Boston tragedy with great mastery. –Helen Faradji
