Details: Amazon.ca After his diptych Microcosmos and Himalayas, Bruno Coulais closes the "natural" trilogy produced by Jacques Perrin with The migrating people. Documentary inspired by the life of birds, Le Peuple migrateur offers the composer a new opportunity to experiment with a whole range of sounds, this time finding his inspiration in the world of birds: the beating of wings as a rhythm, a tempo marked by a cry. The album opens with two titles, "To Be By You Side" and "Masters Of The Field", interpreted by the suave voices of Nick Cave and Robert Wyatt, the latter also officiating on "The Highest Gander" and "La Red Forest". Beyond simple songs, Bruno Coulais uses the timbres of the two British artists as a narrative instrument, oscillating between emotion and octave migration. The composer's usual style is also not to be outdone: Corsican polyphonies with his favorite group A Filetta – "Comme Un Souffle" –, Bulgarian voices – “Le Retour des grues” –, acoustic sounds – “À tête barrere”. The result is a complex but homogeneous score where the sound of birds is omnipresent. Musically rich in sound texture, thematically even more accomplished than its two predecessors, Le Peuple migrateur is one of Bruno Coulais' most harmonic soundtracks and sounds the triumph of his experiments. An ecological and natural work as well as an ode to animals. --Didier Lepretre
