Very successful when it was released in theaters, Quarter to two before Jesus Christ quickly became a cult film, thanks to ingredients that leave nothing to chance: a dream cast, with a number of recognized comedians (Coluche in the lead) and misfit actors and a large cast of cathodic 80s celebrities dressed in armor and breastplates (Yves Mourousi, Léon Zitrone…), in a parody of anachronistic peplum. As always with Jean Yanne, the whole thing is mixed with a sharp look and criticism of our society (even if A Quarter to Two... is less successful in this area than other films by its director, such as Tout the world is beautiful, everyone is nice or The Chinese in Paris).
