O'Callaghan's second album features songs by Kurt Weill, Arnold Schoenberg, and relative newcomer Leonard Cohen. Slow Fox's light mood is refreshing after other contemporary--and far more world-weary--excursions into the works of Weill and other songwriters of Germany's Weimar era by Ute Lemper and Marianne Faithfull. Ably assisted by pianist Robert Kortgaard and a band, O'Callaghan acquired herself particularly well on the Schoenberg songs and Cohen's \"Take This Waltz\" and \"Hallelujah,\" but Slow Fox's air of polite reserve becomes stifling. Despite O'Callaghan's engaging qualities as a performer, the arrangements (mostly by accordionist Claudio Vena) don't hold enough surprises for the listener or pose many challenges to the singer.
