The poet collaborated with the greatest musicians of the Court of the King of France, the two he served: Charles IX and Henri III. He composed a vast anthology of songs and more than 200 of his poems were set to music by some thirty composers. Most were intended to convince kings of the benefits of music. Ronsard claimed that the greatest composer of his time was Orlando de Lassus. Thus, his works were influenced by the breathing of Lassus and they were grouped into books including the Odes, Amours, Folastries, Elegies, masquerades and sheepfolds...
