In the latter his expansive improvisations on three standards and \"Tight Squeeze\" (a fast original) are backed by a competent trio under the leadership of Henri Renaud. The larger band also features Renaud, this time as composer and arranger as well as pianist, and some excellent solos by trumpeter Roger Guerin. Other soloists are William Boucaya on baritone and Renaud himself but naturally Thompson is heard above all. His style was never easy to pigeonhole, which had caused to some extent his difficulties in finding work at home in the USA.
