Details: Amazon.ca Paul Brandt makes the kind of easily digestible, sugary country-pop that wouldn't sound out of place in a Ford commercial. Outside the Frame, the Calgary-raised singer's second album, is no exception. In nearly every song Brandt can be heard confessing his unwavering devotion to his loved one (presumably Lizzie, his wife, to whom the record is dedicated) against a solid if mostly featureless backdrop of twang-inflected instrumentation. While most of the songs follow a similar mid-tempo path, a few exceptions--the comparatively rocking "Yeah" and the wistful title track--provide some variety. And, though Brandt's lyrical range is, to push the limits of charity, narrow, he shows range in his vocal capability, particularly on the tearjerker "What's Come Over You." Occasionally, a little steel guitar or violin appears to add some character to the proceedings, but mostly Outside the Frame is simply pleasant, undemanding pop with just a hint of rural living behind its slick sheen, as eager to please as a new pup. --Shawn Conner Product description Jelleestone ~ Outside The Frame
