Author: Choclair
Release Date: 05-03-2002
Details: Amazon.ca If Toronto MC Choclair was concerned about the backlash over his newly explicit stance on his Ice Cold debut, you'd never know it. If anything, the smooth rhymer's upped the raw content on 2002's sophomore set, The Memoirs of Blake Savage. Backed by jeep-friendly funk beats and a more confident, less confrontational flow, tracks like "The Villain" deal with Choclair's reputation as a foul-mouthed player, while "3Some" and "Light it Up" push his rude boy image further than ever. Aside from a newfound appetite for weed, the biggest change on The Memoirs of Blake Savage is the needless introduction of Choclair's Suave Dawg alter-ego, a character who falls between the more conscious MC of old and the current thug playa. It's a rare cop-out from an MC who otherwise seems confident enough to do what he wants. --Matt Galloway
