Black Label Society / The Blessed Hellride - CD (Used)
Author: Wylde, Zakk - Black Label Soci

Details: Amazon.ca The Blessed Hellride sees the multi-talented Zakk Wylde--Ozzy Osbourne's guitarist and frontman of the Black Label Society--play all instruments bar the drums yet, somehow, he manages to retain an intensity that Osbourne has sadly lacked for some years. Combining the bludgeoning heaviness of Black Sabbath, the deep Southern rock of the Allman Brothers and the flashy pyrotechnics of Eddie Van Halen, he delivers a series of crushing riffs and head-spinning solos. Stand-outs include the grand, dramatic "Blackened Waters", the stomping "Suffering Overdue" and "Stillborn", a pained lament for dead love featuring Osbourne himself. Of course, there are drawbacks. Wylde is clearly over-familiar with Black Sabbath's back catalogue and often his voice is near-indistinguishable from Ozzy's. Also, he lacks subtlety, as evinced by the clattering percussion that invades the otherwise melancholic closer "Dead Meadow". Even so, as heavy rock albums go, this is a really good one. --Dominic Wills
