Aldo Nova / A Portrait Of Aldo Nova - CD (Used)

Details: Amazon.ca For about 15 minutes in 1982 Aldo Nova had it all--the name, the hair, and a hit song in the FM rock radio favourite "Fantasy." The accurately titled A Portrait of Aldo Nova collects eight songs from Nova's hit-hosting debut, while the 10 remaining tracks are taken from subsequent coasters Subject and Twitch. Some of the songs bridge the gap between Gowan and Loverboy by mixing majestic (but monumentally dated) synth sounds with crotch rock vocals and attitude. Nova is at his best on poppier numbers like "Ball and Chain," "Foolin' Yourself," and "Rumours of You," which also serve to offset some of his loopier pretensions. These are hinted at in the J.G. Ballard-ish song title of the synthstrumental "Armageddon (Race Cars) /Armageddon" and explained more fully in the anonymously written (Nova's mom?) liner notes. Still, however dated these recordings may be--and Nova makes Billy Idol sound relevant--they do possess a fetching innocence. It's easy to imagine the young Nova just starting out, ensconced in a recording studio after midnight, playing all the instruments for the demos that would become his debut and dreaming of living out his fantasy life. --Shawn Conner Product Description Nova, Aldo
