Leonard Cohen / Death of a Ladies Man - CD
Author: Cohen, Leonard
Release Date: 27-09-1990
Details: Amazon.ca Admittedly, no one listens to Leonard Cohen records for the music. The acclaimed Montreal poet and novelist is first and foremost a wordsmith, so it's worth putting up with his monotone singing voice just to hear the notoriously dark writer string words together. Give credit, then, to equally volatile pop scientist Phil Spector for trying to make a Leonard Cohen "hit" record. 1977's Death of a Ladies' Man is an epic, tortured affair featuring dozens of musicians, guest appearances from Bob Dylan and Allen Ginsberg, and a thank-you to a liquor store in the credits. Cohen's lyrics are as stark as ever, spooled out over a mix of soul, country, lavishly orchestrated pop, and even funk on "Don't Go Home with Your Hard-On." It's a risky experiment, and one that's occasionally successful. Still, the focus remains the words. --Matt Galloway Product Description Cohen, Leonard
