Since his golden years were over (and well anthologized) by the time Volume 2 came out, this disc is essentially an addendum--gathering songs left off the first volume without representing much of a note from Stevens's later albums. There's worthy material here (including songs from the Harold and Maude soundtrack), but "Footsteps in the Dark" isn't meant to stand on its own. For a more comprehensive dose of Stevens, try the Classics Vol. 24 package--or bookend this collection with its other half. --Gavin McNett
