The Moujik and his wife
Author: Murat, Jean-Louis
Brand: EMI/Virgin
Format: Import
Release Date: 06-02-2009
Details: This could be the title of a Tolstoy novel. Jean-Louis Murat chose to baptize his album Le Moujik et sa femme after the band that recorded this disc. After the astonishing (and electronic) experience of Muragostang , Jean-Louis Murat regains a taste for more natural things. A return to organic music, and pop songs with guitars.
We can bet on two instant hits in this new delivery with on the one hand the love story in the traditional vein of the good man and the very bluesy "Molly". Sensual nostalgia, whispered in one breath, just the way we like it. We will also bet on the immediate embrace of "Beyond", with its nonchalant tempo which advances on you, recounting a strange encounter, supernatural for everyone. Except for Murat... Then there is the whole universe that our favorite Auvergnat knows how to build and bring to life like no other ("Roman crowd", "Dragonfly"). And it is not the least of Murat's consecrations to be identifiable with the first guitar chords. Chords that he slows down at will by digging weary tempos, which crawl like old Neil Young songs ("Hombre", "The Inner World").
Everyone will be able to judge here how much Murat loves and plays simple pleasures with his rudimentary harmonica and his basic guitar. And if that was his music, the one he has deep inside him? --Valerie Dupouy
