Details: One of the greatest vocal groups to come out of the roots of the rock & roll era, the Platters canvased in the black radio only genre for several years starting back in the early 1950s but their smooth love ballads and vocals propelled them to the top of the pop charts in 1955 with “The Great Pretender”. Once the world heard the harmonies of the Platters their was no stopping them as hit after hit climbed the charts to the #1 spot with classics like “My Prayer”, “Smoke Gets In Your Eyes”, “Twilight Time” all selling Gold. Inducted into the R & R Hall of Fame in 1990, the Platters were voted the #1 Vocal Group of the 1950s based on their overall sales and chart achievements. Many line-up changes took place over the 60s and 70s and 80s and these newer digital recordings were done in 1998.
