Details: Product Description New York City trio Nada Surf make their major label debut with high/low. Produced by Ric Ocasek, high/low blurs the line between art and pop with songs that are fast and sleek, loud but subtle, and melodic but dissonant, all the while casting a wickedly keen eye on life's dark little details. Amazon.ca "Popular" or how to become it. All it took was one title – a tongue-in-cheek instruction manual to become “teacher's favorite” and king of the high school court – for Nada Surf to take young and rebellious minds by storm. And find themselves propelled into the pantheon of college-rock. Renewing a genre that had hardly heated the blood more since Nirvana or Pearl Jam, the three New Yorkers put a very adolescent ardor in this punk and undisciplined power-pop. Snubs rather than arms of honour, the songs of High/Low are enthusiastic but not angry, energetic but never angry. These good-natured hymns with contagious efficiency do not incite rebellion but rather hedonism, gluttony, all those sins that one commits with pleasure. High/Low, in a hurry, encourages you to live fully. Not simplistic for all that, the compositions of the three songwriters also conceal their dark side, like the nebulous "Icebox" which, by contrast, only makes the rest of the album brighter. --Anne-Claire Norot
