Details: Amazon.ca Although we never doubted Pulp (the previous Different Class and This Is Hardcore were amazing), we could legitimately wonder what the group could still bring new, after having, it seems, illustrated all the facets of a talent that referred to the Kinks. Humor, a particularly keen sense of derision, frankly glam rock: Jarvis Cocker has never hidden his admiration for David Bowie and a few others. The big surprise is due to the fact of having summoned to the bedside of an album constantly postponed because of a lack of inspiration, the too discreet Scott Walker who acts here as a dynamiting producer inventing mixtures hitherto unpublished at Pulp, installing walkways that the group loves to take. Less directly carnal than the previous opuses, this one wants to be more intellectual and is difficult to deliver, over the length, over repeated listenings, like many great records. For the relatively predictable side of its universe (by dint of having frequented it, we ended up discovering the tricks), Pulp substitutes surprises upon surprises without ever departing from its bitter irony. The discoid beats, temporarily in the locker room, give way to sensual orchestrations whose sick flamboyance offers the leader's voice the most singular settings as on "Bad Cover Version". Amazing. --Hervé Comte Product Description pulp
