Details: Product description Titanic Amazon.ca With the most impressive budget in cinematic history, record-breaking theater attendance, and exorbitant profits, James Cameron's Titanic remains one of the most significant commercial successes of the last few decades. Cameron succeeded in making a blockbuster of a scale not seen since the 70s, the era of great disaster films like The Towering Inferno or The Poseidon Adventure. By pairing his project with two of the most prominent young actors of the moment (Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet), Cameron also ensured mass appeal. While Titanic focuses on telling the story of an impossible love between a young woman from a wealthy family (Rose) and a penniless drifter (Jack)—through the eyes of a centenarian Rose, via flashback—the film manages to capture all the dramatic tension of one of history's most famous tragedies. Thanks to an absolute respect for conventions that sometimes proves too predictable, Titanic remains a complete adventure film (the shipwreck scene lasts nearly an hour and a half), touching and effective. --Helen Faradji
