Details: Product Description Déry, Marc Amazon.ca Haunted by the fear of repeating himself, Marc Déry spent a long time in the studio refining every particle of À l'avenir, a second solo album with many colors that oscillates between modernity and tradition, poetry and realism, anxiety and happiness. Even more so than on his self-titled debut, we recognize this tasty cocktail of complex musical experimentation and slightly naive lyrics that nonetheless hit the mark. Carried by a whimsical innocence, without stylistic artifice, Déry's words manage to convey simple emotions ("Depuis"), difficult moments ("Trois Minutes"), or the black holes of existence ("CTRL-Z"). But it is above all the richness and musical diversity of the album – the fruit of a fertile collaboration with Michel Dagenais, a former member of Sale Affaire – that almost always seduces and sometimes dazzles. Soaring between jazz ("Ça fait longtemps"), trip-hop ("Geyser"), reggae ("T'es où?"), blues ("Lumière rose"), and folk-rock ("Ostie qu'y s'lève tard"), the singer manages to maintain a balance to create a harmonious atmosphere, smooth, yet not without depth. À l'avenir establishes Marc Déry as one of the most worthy representatives of this new Quebec songwriting movement which, from Daniel Bélanger to Ariane Moffatt, including Jérôme Minière or even the Pierre Flynn of the 2000s, brings an invigorating wind of technopoetry to local music. --Pascale Millot
