Details: Amazon.ca Theme songs for children's shows have always held a mysterious power over every generation. Whether we like it or not, these little ditties get stuck in our heads for the rest of our lives. The 14 Quebec alternative rock or metal bands brought together on Flashback seem to have taken part in the game of reinterpretation with mischievous pleasure. There are particularly heavy reinterpretations such as "The Mysterious Cities of Gold" by Overbass, "Goldorak" by Obliveon, "Captain Scarlet" and "Flam" by Voïvod and Vulgar Deli, "Transformers" by Ghoulunatics, but also others, more playful ones like "Bobino" by ArseniQ33, "Mario Bros" by Redcore, "The Flintstones" by Subb, "Inspector Gadget" by Collectivo, "Bedrock Twitch" by The Kingpins or "Star Blazer" by The Planet Smashers. The result is uneven, but always entertaining and surprising, and imbued with a good dose of innocence despite the inevitably muscular genre. Sacrilege or festive diversion? That’s for you to decide… --Eric Parazelli
