Details: Product Description Mara Tremblay Amazon.ca Playful country trash, textured alternative western, folk rock that is by turns tender, festive, and raw—Mara Tremblay's first album slips between epithets. Released in February 1999, Le Chihuahua marked a successful milestone in the career of this multi-instrumentalist, who notably played violin and mandolin alongside Les Colocs and Les Frères à Chval. Here, she writes the lyrics, music, and production, in collaboration with Olivier Langevin, guitarist of the band Gros Mené, François Lalonde, a long-time collaborator of Jean Leloup, and Fred Fortin. With its disheveled style, Le Chihuahua is in perfect harmony with the musician's raw emotionality and her slightly rough voice. A delightful, often poignant spontaneity emerges from the whole, where country, Quebec folklore, punk rock rhythms, folk laments, electric "garage" sounds, and Arabic-inflected violins rub shoulders. Whether she is singing about the harshest despair or the lightest deviations, Mara Tremblay has forged a playful aesthetic kneaded with both humor and emotion. A weapon against gloom and uniformity! -- Noémi Mercier
