Isabelle Boulay / Love Scenes - CD (Used)
Author: Boulay, Isabelle
Release Date: 01-06-2000
Details: Amazon.ca During the FrancoFolies de Montréal, in 1999, Gaspesian Isabelle Boulay was given carte blanche for two shows where she surrounded herself with singers she has long appreciated. The fruit of these evenings is engraved on Scenes of Love, which also includes a duet with Francis Cabrel recorded in Europe and a rather spoiled studio version of “When I love once, I love forever”, by Richard Desjardins, with the collaboration of Gildor Roy. The interpreter especially takes advantage of the opportunity to revisit the classics that marked her in her youth: among others, the sublime "Return of Don Quixote" with Michel Rivard, the touching "Naufrage" with Dan Bigras, and his interpretation of '“Amsterdam”, by Jacques Brel, which gives goosebumps. The album also includes several pieces from his own repertoire. Among the best moments, let's remember the electrifying presence of Éric Lapointe on “The Heroine of this story”, the beautiful complicity uniting Boulay and France d'Amour on “Tombée de toi”, and the hoarse voice of Laurence Jalbert on “J I hurt for love”. Despite some more hollow passages (especially “Les Yeux au Ciel”, “Couleur café” and “Tandem”) and the presentations that drag on, Scenes of Love is a marvelous exercise in style. -- Frederic Boudreault
