Reviving the biting style of his corrosive The Wars of the Roses, Danny DeVito transforms what could appear as a small entertainment without great surprise into a true vitriolic comedy. Thwarting many clichés by bringing the villain out of his seemingly more than respectable characters, he also places his film under the sign of "cream pie" comedy and the trendy Tex Avery cartoon thanks to dynamic editing, inventive direction and a pleasurable sense of exaggeration, although sometimes bordering on good taste. Performed by an always very funny Ben Stiller and a cheerful Drew Barrymore, Duplex is a tasty mix of scathing irony and caustic physical gags.
