Cagney & Lacey Season 6/ 6 DVD set
Author: Tyne Daly & Sharon Gless
Brand: Visual Entertainment
Format: NTSC
Release Date: 12-11-2013
Details: As the series drew to an end it moved forward, dealing with the ramifications of Christine Cagney’s descent into alcoholism so thoroughly explored over the previous two seasons, toward bringing closure to Mary Beth Lacey and her father, and even to “jump the shark” with the leads dressed as pieces of fruit on a game show (Greed (Disc 2)). There was the very powerful Don’t I Know You episode (Disc 3) and the equally compelling Friendly Smoke segment (Disc 5) winning Tyne her fourth Emmy® as Outstanding Lead Actress. We even fulfilled Ms Daly’s long ago made request to one day do a Clint Eastwood-like shoot ‘em up (the two-parter, A Fair Shake (Disc 6)). Tony® award-winning actress Betty Buckley joined for an episode (You’ve Come a Long Way, Baby (Disc 2)) as did Oscar® award-winning* actress Mercedes McCambridge (Land of the Free (Disc 4)). The City Is Burning (Disc 1), deals with racial prejudice not only in society, but the precinct members themselves, and Loves Me Not (Disc 1), where Mary Beth Lacey is sued for interfering in a domestic abuse situation culminates in the ultimate example of the Cagney & Lacey admonition “tell - don’t show.” The aforementioned Don’t I Know You (Disc 3) and Friendly Smoke (Disc 5) were highlights in this last season not only because of the sterling performances of Sharon Gless in the former and Tyne Daly in the latter, but because of the subject matter and content of the two episodes.
