Details: Amazon.ca Representative of a social cinema, committed, but never miserable, the British director Stephen Frears immerses us with Dirty Pretty Things in the troubled waters of London, also giving Audrey Tautou the opportunity to succeed in her post-Amelie Poulain turn. Okwe is a Nigerian immigrant who works as a taxi driver during the day and as a hotel concierge at night. A true angel of kindness, he is determined to help Senay, a young immigrant who has just arrived from Turkey, as best he can. But both will quickly find themselves trapped by the abject Sneaky who forces them to take part in a lackluster traffic. Directly in the vein of his very beautiful The Beautiful Laundrette, Stephen Frears therefore makes us discover the sordid underside of the English capital. Very far from the images of postcards, he plunges us into the difficult world of illegal immigration by doubling his observation with a gripping thriller whose primary challenge is the quest for human dignity. Despite an incredible outcome, Dirty Pretty Things also benefits from a controlled production and the impeccable interpretation of Audrey Tautou, Sergi Lopez (perfect of infamous viscosity) and the charismatic Chiwetel Ejiofor, an excellent English theater actor. Surprising, shocking, the film forces us to look at a reality that is often overlooked from a resolutely humanist perspective, full of hope. – Helen Faradji.
