Details: Amazon.ca After the very successful Two Seconds, Quebecer Manon Briand was able to benefit from the support of producer Luc Besson for her second production. Crowned best Canadian feature film by the public of the World Film Festival in 2002, La Turbulence des fluids skilfully mixes destiny, science and emotions. Alice is a seismologist in Tokyo. When the tides disappear in Baie-Comeau, her hometown, it is obviously she who is sent, reluctantly. She will discover that other strange phenomena also shake the small town, and the heavy and humid climate will do nothing to preserve the scientific rigor that she would need. However, it is only by lowering her guard that Alice will be able to notice the handsome Marc Vandal. Desire, disorder, danger: these are the three themes under which Manon Briand places this feature film. With a lot of maturity, she explores the almost cosmic connection that connects the sea, the land and the bodies. Heavy and light at the same time, the film has fine dialogues, served by an always charismatic Pascale Bussières, as a woman subjected to forces that are beyond her, and by a disturbing Jean-Nicolas Verreault, as a confused airplane pilot, without forgetting the presence of the too rare Geneviève Bujold. A work of atmosphere more than action, electric and almost supernatural, La Turbulence des fluids can also count on a coherent production and a haunting soundtrack, and stands out as a rich, complex and complete film. --Helen Faradji
