Details: Amazon.ca Pure concentrate of catchy and imaginative music, Les Colocs: L'Intégrale 1993-2000 brings together three concerts by the group: at the Festival franco-ontarien in 1993, at the Spectrum de Montréal, two years later, and at the Festival d'été de Québec in 1999. In addition to successes such as "Passe -moé la puck” and “Get away from it”, we discover some excellent surprises on this video box set. We will remember, among other things, that with their particular style, skilful and explosive mix of rock, reggae, scat and gypsy music, the Colocs were a bunch of happy lads. In these concerts, alongside guests like Mara Tremblay, La Famille Botte or harmonicist Guy Bélanger, they left no room for melancholy, even if their lyrics often evoked a very harsh urban reality. In addition to three hours of music, L'Intégrale contains short interviews with the founding members: the late leader Dédé Fortin (whose monologues on stage were absolutely delicious), Mike Sawatzky, Serge Robert (now Mononc' Serge), Jimmy Bourgoing and Patrick Esposito Di Napoli (died of AIDS in 1994). Terror in Chinatown, a wacky short film directed by the Roommates themselves, completes the picture. These bonuses show that the richness of the group's universe was not only musical. To remember, discover or rediscover a free, honest, whole and unbridled group that left an indelible mark on Quebec music. --Helen Faradji
