Details: Pierre Leduc, a lecturer at Laval University who also spends his time translating the work of the late Polish poet Edward Stachura, has built his lonely life around books, words and silence. Discouraged by the ignorance of his students, just as he decides to quit his job, his estranged father, a real estate mogul, announces that he's suffering from terminal cancer and wants Pierre back in his life. He tells Pierre he's leaving his company to him, but Pierre refuses it outright. At the same time, Adele, a 13-year-old girl, shows up on his doorstep, asking if he's her father. Having abandoned Adele's mother when she was pregnant, now faced with his cowardice, Peter denies everything. But reality catches up as Adele is determined to have her father in her life, and his own father, seeing his end approaching, gets Pierre to come with him to visit his childhood home in Bas-St-Laurent. ----- Pierre Leduc is a man who no longer expects anything from life. At the end of his thirties, he taught the literature of Eastern European countries in a Quebec university. Solitary, he takes refuge in the translation of the works of a Polish poet whom he admires, Edward Stachura, who committed suicide at the age of 42 in 1979. Knowing that he was doomed by cancer, his father wants to bequeath to him his fortune, earned by questionable means. In the real estate. But Pierre refuses, because he does not want this ill-gotten money. Shortly after, Pierre meets a woman he abandoned thirteen years earlier when she was pregnant with him. This woman, Nicole, is accompanied by her daughter Adèle, Pierre's daughter. Pierre avoids contact but Adèle sets off in pursuit. After an initial refusal, Pierre will agree to meet her and will admit his paternity.
