Thierry, a young Gaspesian who came to study in Montreal, literally falls under the spell of a young red-haired woman with very white skin, a characteristic that usually displeases Thierry. But Claire's sexual desires, her strange illness and her no less strange family intrigue Henri, Thierry's best friend and roommate. They will gradually discover other increasingly disturbing secrets.

Halfway between fantasy and horror and with reduced means, White Skin therefore delves into the secrets of genetics to be a truly successful first Quebec genre film. Taking advantage of Montreal's urban setting, and despite a direction that still sometimes lacks confidence, notably through its abuse of close-ups, Daniel Ruby succeeds in creating a thick and disconcerting mystery through sensual and disturbing atmospheres. Counting on beautiful symbolizations and on original and neat dialogues, the film is an unhealthy love story, some aspects of which could even recall the first attempts of a Cronenberg from Quebec. – Helen Faradji .
