Details: Amazon.ca The first feature film by a seasoned videographer, Post Mortem, by Louis Bélanger, is a beautiful and dark story of mad love, a surprising and original film. In order to make ends meet and raise her granddaughter (Sarah Lecompte-Bergeron), a young Montrealer (Sylvie Moreau) picks up and robs passing lovers. One of them accidentally kills her, and the young woman finds herself in the morgue, in the hands of a night watchman (Gabriel Arcand), misanthrope and blues lover. Let's say no more: this is only the beginning of an unlikely story, yet inspired by a news item... Winner of three Genie awards, four Jutra awards and the prize for best direction at the World Film Festival in 1999, Post Mortem is probably one of the most awarded “first films” in Quebec. It's only fair, since this false suspense disguised as a real story of love and mad desire marks a brilliant start. Written by Louis Bélanger, this a priori morbid story is of such vigor that it avoids any complacency, and the two main actors are superb. Note that the DVD includes many additions: excerpts from the Jutra and Genie award ceremonies, interviews with Moreau, Arcand and Bélanger, and a particularly relevant, often amusing, and even touching director's commentary where the filmmaker, at first talkative and lively , becomes more and more silent, overcome by the emotion of the film. --Eric Fourlanty
