The members of the Charbonniers de l'enfer, a group dedicated to a cappella interpretations of the folk repertoire, rarely have time to get together for more than two or three shows a year. But by dint of good will, the star group of traditional music, which brings together André Marchand, Michel Bordeleau, Jean-Claude Mirandette, Normand Miron and Michel Faubert, managed to record Wô, its second disc in 10 years. The quintet thus immortalized 16 songs, so many jewels of complicity and inventiveness which are far from suffering from the absence of instruments. Les Charbonniers multiply the vocal finds to make Wô an album of Quebec folklore that goes off the beaten track, both in the repertoire approached and in the arrangements. They sometimes opt for skilful harmonies ("Sur la vignelon"), sometimes for powerful unisons ("Il a tir sa claire épée"), not hesitating to ape the sound loops ("Au diable les avocats") or to tap into the world ("Wô"). Here is a successful recording, which exudes conviviality and to which we succumb with great pleasure. To discover ! --Nicolas Houle Product Description The Charbonniers de l'enfer
