Details: After establishing himself with the immense success of his previous album, Engelberg (sold 2 million copies!), Stephan Eicher strikes again very hard with 12 tracks which, between folk and rock, feed each other of his hoarse and foggy voice, of his saturated guitars, of the feverish energy of his rhythm section. To do this, Eicher had the good taste to surround himself with outstanding musicians, such as drummer Manu Katché, bassist Pino Palladino and guitarist Richard Lloyd, ex-member of Tom Verlaine's group, Television. Abandoning the usual studios, the Swiss-German rocker has brought them together in a hotel in Carcassonne while, curious about all artistic crossbreeding, he mixes medieval instruments, Arabic percussion and electric sounds at will. For the texts, he renews his collaboration with the writer Philippe Djian on seven titles of a lucid nostalgia, which stick perfectly to his bittersweet universe, such as the very beautiful "Des haut et des bas" and "Ni remords ni regrets ". In the end, Eicher signs here a remarkable sixth album which, rewarded in turn with a diamond disc, cheerfully takes up the challenge of the previous one. --Sylvie Devilette
