Amazon.ca In 1999, much was said about Just before it was the album of maturity for Bruel: it should however be noted that the latter took 10 years since the triumph of So look. His subjects are therefore closer to the concerns of the forties than to those of the prepubescent adolescent. Knowing that the previous album, in 1994, had not been unanimous in what is called the profession (the gold and platinum discs prove that the public has never really abandoned it) , Bruel wanted to forget the "Patriiiiiick" singer with babes. He succeeded, not with his former accomplices (Gérard Presgurvic, author of Roméo et Juliette, signs only one song, the tube "For life") but with the help of the half-brothers David and Fabrice Moreau. The latter even teamed up with Mick Lanaro for a very acoustic production, with a lot of sumptuous strings. Since "J'te mentirai" and "Pour la vie" invaded the airwaves, Bruel knows that he has won his passport for the new millennium. Moreover with a nostalgic opus, turned to the past ("Elie" is a tribute to his grandfather, "Au café des délices" is dedicated to the country of his origins). And also melancholy, full of doubts in the face of great love ("Everything fades", "Peur de moi"). In a word, a fourth album closer to fulfillment than maturity. --J.-PP and Thierry Cadet
