Orange Project
Details: Amazon.ca Winner of the L'Empire des future stars contest in 1998, Projet Orange presents here an eponymous debut album strongly influenced by atmospheric rock, a genre little exploited in Quebec. The group, which has gone from a quintet to a duo (there are only the two Boies brothers, Jean-Christophe and Jean-Sébastien), was clearly inspired by the album OK Computer, by Radiohead. On "La Pomme", Jean-Christophe is crooned, and pieces such as "Air malin" and "Mystère aerosol" testify to a certain talent for catchy melodies. Musically, this aerial rock amalgamating various electronic influences is not lacking in interest, but Jean-Christophe's mysterious writing sometimes turns out to be hermetic. We are waiting for the rest to see what wood the two brothers will warm up to. --Frederic Boudreault
