Since his magnificent concert album Captured Alive , we have been waiting impatiently for Mr. Faulkner to return to the studio. Done, and here we are in the presence of a worthy and consistent successor to Caboose and Tessons d'auréole . There are a few parodies there ( Cherchez l'idole , Karaoké ), our national curmudgeon making even more ironic about a pop nightmare he complained about so much. But to this fair derision are added chronicles and ballads that remind us of what major author we are dealing with. Surrounded by a country-rock troupe that suits him like a cowboy his boots, "Cassonade" turns out to be at its peak, whether he solicits the whole orchestra or delivers his poetry to us in a more bare way ( At the edge of the canal , Gas in my tank ). – Thierry Bissonnette (See.ca)
