Muzion / J'rêvolutionne - CD (Used)
Author: Muzion
Release Date: 19-11-2002
Details: Amazon.ca The Montreal hip hop group Muzion struck a blow in 1999 with Mentality Moune Morne… (They didn't understand) and his unifying anthem "La Vi ti nèg". Three years later, J-Kyll, Impossible and Dramatik deliver an even more striking second opus: J'rêvolutionne is not only one of the most successful Quebec albums of 2002, but certainly the most assertive and striking of the lot. Throughout the 14 pieces, the pot seems about to explode. Imposing themselves as the spokespersons of a Haitian community that they consider too often reduced to silence, the rappers send out a harsh and black message, a reflection of the reality with which they themselves have been confronted. The trio raises its fist against the music industry, racism, violence, injustice, poverty, globalization: the texts are imbued with a rage that cannot leave anyone indifferent. Rapper J-Kyll, one of the rare women to evolve in the middle of hip hop, clearly stands out for the intensity of her interpretations and the strength of her compositions. The rhythms are clubbed from start to finish, thanks to the solid production of the brothers Martin and André Courcy. With touches of compas, rara and zouk, Muzion also achieves a well-balanced mix between his Haitian roots and the modernity of his hip hop. No moment of respite punctuates J'rêvolutionne, a rich and varied album that proves that the band is at the top of its game. --Frederic Boudreault
