Details: Amazon.ca Place five young people in a cabin deep in the woods, sprinkle immaturity, beer, sex, add a character with skin eaten away by a serious illness, slip in a group of obtuse villagers, shake, and you get Cabin Fever, the first production by the young Eli Roth, applying without complexes but with a certain dexterity all the good old recipes of the film, half suspense, half gore, bloody outbursts included. Karen, Marcy, Jeff, Paul, and Bert have just graduated. To celebrate, they treat themselves to a short stay in the woods, where alcohol and intimate encounters will be part of the game. Everything is going well until a man suffering from a strange illness that eats his skin asks them for help…; Interpreted with more or less conviction by young first, the rather stereotypical characters will also have to face the villagers, sort of idiots survivors of Deliverance. The Manichean discrepancy between town and country, young and old, healthy and sick, sometimes creates astonishing comic effects, complemented by some well-felt gore effects. Operating on the effective principle of the chain of stressful events, Cabin Fever will delight fans of the genre. The DVD edition includes the director's first short, The Rotten Fruit, as well as the making-of of the feature film. – Helen Faradji.
