Details: Amazon.ca Susie Arioli's bright, rich voice is as warm as guitarist Jordan Officer's gently-plucked tones and this mostly string-instrument swing band (Arioli plays the snare) evokes an era of swing that's less "jump, jive and wail" and more about smoky sophistication, sultry come-ons and sad laments. Arioli and Officer perform time-honoured standards like the title track and "Honeysuckle Rose" with a mixture of reverence and joi de vivre that is so charming it's nearly impossible to avoid getting wrapped up in this CD like a favorite warm blanket. Arioli has a spark in her vocal performances that is confident and engaging, as though she's been singing these classics all her life. Perhaps she has. Officer is an equally self-assured sidekick, providing nimble-fingered fretwork as expressive as Arioli's vocals. He's even featured on "Jordan's Boogie" and Walter's Flat," two jaunty original instrumentals that add some zip to the CD. It's refreshing to see the legacy of this sound and these songs being carried on by a young group and delivered (hopefully) to an equally young audience.
