The party, love, friendship: a trinity of all possibilities that Bernard Adamus increases with the stories of those around him. Three years after the full-blown remorse of his second album, No 2 , he's back with Sorel Soviet So What , and he's in great shape! So as not to dwell on the depression once again, he has pushed the cloud and the dejection in favor of the good times that are rolling, and signs there texts even more raw, living from the paradox of being more personal but less intimate. Sorel Soviet So What (advanced candidate for album of the year) is an exultant and vibrant collection of country with mojo and grooving blues, which continues to tell the surroundings while s opening up to the world. These ten new tracks propel the country and blues that made Adamus' mark into a widening and flourishing musical spectrum, augmenting it with surging rock n' roll, sweaty soul and a light Hawaiian breeze. Ten pieces that revisit gloom in favor of its opposite in order to bet on the vibrancy, warmth and liveliness of their arrangements. Almost entirely recorded in the vast room of the Breakglass Studio in Montreal (with the exception of two tracks which were captured in the mythical basement of Éric Villeneuve, faithful producer of all his albums), Sorel Soviet So What testifies to the work of Adamus surrounded by seasoned musicians. Guys all playing live, without headphones, so that the energy of each of the instruments overflows into the sound of the other. It's an album that lives off the ardor of the studio's collective dynamic. It's Fred Fortin who raps, it's Jeannot Bournival 's saxophone who goes off the rails, it's the proven pedal steel of Joe Grass and the choirs of Daphné Brissette (Canailles), Anna Frances Meyer (Les Deuxluxes ) and Nicole Carmen Godbout . It is especially Bernard Adamus who flashes and who drops his guitar on half of the tracks to let his voice go like an Amy Winehouse of the poor. It's a huge personality that overflows even more, and it's glorious.
