Lulled by the prog rock of his parents, Etienne Dufresne learned the guitar by himself and first infiltrated the Montreal scene as a photographer, before swapping his camera for his songs, after a series of romantic and professional failures. His first EP Sainte-Colère, released in February 2020, is a convincing appetizer mixing synth-pop and electro folk. The project seems to have a bright future (mid-year awards from ICI Musique, Sirius XM, GAMIQ nomination, presentation at Rideau, at ROSEQ) until the pandemic slows its momentum.

Etienne decides to take advantage of this temporal abyss and gets down to writing his first album. Co-directed with Félix Petit (Les Louanges, Laurence-Anne), Excalibur is a skilful assemblage of deconstructed genres. Etienne reaffirms his style of writing in 11 songs where the accuracy of the words prevails over the lyrical flights. Very much of its time, it is a music that brings together a host of influences to form a homogeneous and unique sound, which stands out from current French-speaking proposals.
