Mikael Blomkvist is an economics journalist at Millenium magazine. Sentenced for defamation, he decides to distance himself from his life and his job. But Henrik Vanger, a great figure in Swedish industry, calls on him to investigate an unsolved murder, that of Harriet Vanger, the great man's niece who disappeared at the age of sixteen.
