Undress Le Vacarme (Fr)
Author: Small, Richard
Release Date: 2002-02-19
Details: Richard Small, protege of singer Bruno Pelletier, has opted, in Undressing the noise , for pop rock with British colors. Aerial guitars, hypnotic rhythms, Small's music is intended to be linear and without pronounced nuances. We even sometimes excluded chorus and solo songs to better stick to this aesthetic bias.
The adventure, which could have been captivating, unfortunately loses its charm as the album progresses. Small's singing turns out to be a little mannered: he minces his words and delivers them with a fake English accent. Its disheveled poetry gives precedence to rhyme over meaning, and the album is sorely lacking in variety, with some songs being almost interchangeable. In the same vein as the more energetic work of Projet orange, DésDRESS le vacarme still has good moments and could interest fans of British-style soft rock performed in French. -- Nicolas Houle
