On simple airs and a sober instrumentation where acoustic guitar, piano and violin have the beautiful role, the singer-songwriter shares, often with humor, the vagaries of her daily life. Over these 17 songs, it is clear that the one that is estimated for the quality of its texts does not offer here its best vintage. His anecdotes which are poetic only in rhyme ("I don't want dogs", "August 29 at St-Denis"), his moralizing portraits of society ("Gros Colons", "Les Deux Hommes") and its redundant melodic lines disappoint. Admittedly, a few tracks like "Du coq à l'âme" or the naive "L'Enfant au cheveu gris" are more appealing, but overall, The Red Letters is reserved for fans of the singer. -- Nicolas Houle
