Pierre Boulez places his interpretation resolutely in the sound universe of the 20th century, that of the School of Vienna, but also of Edgar Varèse. The mastery of sound and architecture are perfectly lucid, the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra responding transparently to the conductor's slightest indications. Such a balanced reading also lets express a strong emotion in the shock of the most violent contrasts.
