Several months before the launch of the show in Quebec, in February 2004, the album was released, bringing together 15 of the 35 songs performed on stage. Love, desire and jealousy are rendered by warm music and inspired lyrics in the work of Gray, a lyricist who gave some success to Patrick Bruel, Didier Barbelivien and Johnny Halliday. Under the direction of Guy St-Onge, the orchestra of more than 40 musicians sometimes plays languorous strings mourning lost love, sometimes a passionate flamenco. Jean-François Breau, who was Gringoire in Notre-Dame de Paris, lends his voice full of assurance and sensuality to the character of Don Juan. As for the beautiful Maria, who will fall under his spell, the crystalline voice of Marie-Ève Janvier perfectly testifies to her young happiness in love. If the casting is particularly successful in the case of these lovebirds whose voices marry admirably in the success “Changer”, the other performances sometimes lack spice. However, we must highlight the happy participation of Chico Castillo, who sings a lively gypsy piece of his own (“Vivir”), as well as the presence of Claude Léveillée (Don Luis), whose threadbare voice befits his role as father disappointed with his son's habits. Because if this Don Juan has new accents, he is still as indomitable. And that's exactly why we love him. --Julie Sergent
