Every member of the Academy will perform dynamic and contemporary arrangements crafted by the able hand of mr. Sicotte. ''Star Académie'' is a variety program that places local talent at the forefront. Over 1,450,000 viewers tuned in for the first TVA network. After touring the province in search of candidates to train as the stars of tomorrow, ''Star Académie'' presented their finds on February 16. These fourteen finalists have entered the Academy to learn the tricks of the show business trade. Amazon.ca Nearly three million viewers watched the galas each week Star Académie, an unprecedented phenomenon in Quebec. More than 500,000 fans purchased the album, prepared with care by the 14 finalists in the competition, who generally bet on well-crafted pop, spiced up with a few rock or techno touches. The realization is ensured for the most part by Antoine Sicotte, creative half of the Sky duo, and by Éric Lapointe's guitarist, Stéphane Dufour, who offers Annie a rather muscular version of "I'm going to love you", by Michel Sardou. The original compositions by Stéphane Laporte are inspired – including "I'm going to change the world", a pretty hymn to peace brilliantly interpreted by Jean-François –, but one of the merits of this album is also that it manages to bring days of somewhat forgotten songs. While some versions are very successful ("Quelle Belle Vie", by Gilles Bélanger, reviewed by Dave, "Danser danser", by Nanette Workman, covered by Émily and, above all, "Tout petit la planet", by Plastik Bertrand, enhanced by the crystalline voice of Élyse), others turn out to be less memorable (we spoiled "A musician among so many others", by Harmonium). This first album in the series does not compete in originality, but provides the great pleasure of discovering 14 talents who have forged a special place in the hearts of Quebecers... --Frédéric Boudreault
