Details: Product Description Average teenager Peter Parker is transformed into an extraordinary super hero after he is accidentally bitten by a radioactive spider. When his beloved uncle is savagely murdered during a robbery, young Peter vows to use his powers to avenge his death. Deeming himself "Spider-Man," he sets about ridding the streets of crime, bringing him into conflict with malevolent super-villain "Green Goblin." Amazon.ca After adapting X-Men, directed by Bryan Singer for Fox studios, we expected a lot from the film based on the adventures of Spider-Man, another hero of the Marvel Comics. By entrusting the task to Sam Raimi ( A Simple Plan, Evil Dead), Sony has made a wise choice. When Peter Parker is bitten by a radioactive spider, his fate takes a completely different turn. From an ordinary student, he transforms into a planetary vigilante, a superhero capable of all exploits, until he confronts Green Goblin, his diabolical alter ego. By remaining extremely faithful to the comic strip, Sam Raimi opts for a less Manichean and funnier vision of the hero than that usually conveyed by blockbusters. Young leads Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst are very natural, and the villain, played by Willem Dafoe, is utterly believable (a rare commodity in big fantasy productions). As for the movements of the spider-man, they are elegant and dynamic, thanks to the computer-generated images and the well-crafted special effects. Aerial camera movements complete the picture of this Spider-Man who makes us want to get caught up in his web. --Helen Faradji Review What a canvas! With over $400 million at the box office, Spiderman, this Marvel hero born in 1962 from the pen of Stan Lee and the pencil of Steve Dikto, made a sensational entry into the history of cinema. With both Batman filmed by Tim Burton, it is without doubt one of the best BD-cinema clones. Nothing was left to chance: an achievement entrusted to an early fan, Sam Raimi ( A simple plan, Darkman, Evil Dead), whose universe, in many ways, recalls that of the director of Edward Scissorhands – fascination with tormented heroes, taste for nocturnal atmospheres inspired by Gothic and Expressionism; a script passed through the hands of David Koepp, ( Jurassic Park, Impossible mission, L'impasse) which brilliantly combines teen-movie and initiatory story on the passage from adolescence to adulthood; characters played with intensity by Tobey Maguire, in the title role, both agile, mischievous and tormented, Kirsten Dunst, in that of his sparkling girlfriend, Willem Dafoe, in the Green Goblin, both diabolical and seductive. Finally, last asset: New York. Rarely has the city appeared so playful and ethereal. In total, therefore, faultless (like the disturbing and poetic kissing scene between Spiderman and MaryJane), with the exception of this final shot imbued with particularly unwelcome patriotism. -- Sylvain Lefort -- Amazon.co.uk Chronicle
